DESCRIPTION:From Friday 12 until Monday 15 September you are invited to “Go Mining” in Central Queenland. \nOur hosts\, Jim Mullett and Clint Veivers\, have dug deep to create a unique fly-in based one of central Queensland’s major industries. \nLand at Springsure on the 12 th by midday for lunch. Then after lunch\, fly on to Emerald to check-in to our accommodation\, followed by dinner at the Hotel next \ndoor. \nOn Saturday we are off to Blackwater to visit the mining museum and mine tour. Our hosts are currently negotiating permission for us to land at Blackwater and to have a private tour of the mine\, both of which are very special events. Lunch at Blackwater then back to Emerald for dinner. \nSunday starts with a short flight around the unique terrain and spectacular hills near Capella (where Clint lives). After that it is onto the bus to the Gem Fields\, Rubyvale and Sapphire for lunch (and perhaps some fossicking). Then back to Emerald for dinner. \nHead home on Monday or take in some of the major events happening in outback Queensland in September – the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers \, the Cunnamulla Fella Festival or the Winton Outback festival. You might even like to attend the Birdsville Races the weekend before the fly-in.

DESCRIPTION:Autumn Fly-in to Tasmania\nFly-in on Friday February 14 to our hosts George and Maree Mills’ airfield at Longdown in northern Tasmania. (Launceston Airport is nearby for those wanting an airfield with landing charges.) \nHighlight of this fly-in will be a bus trip on Saturday to view the Wall in the Wilderness at Derwent Bridge (https://thewalltasmania.com.au). This is one of Australia’s most unique attractions. Using Huon Pine\, the wall sculpture is over 3 metres high\, over 100 metres in length and required over a decade to carve. \nWe are currently looking for volunteers to co-ordinate overnight stays at Flinders Island (southbound) and King Island (northbound) for those interested. \nFull details of this event are provided in the December newsletter.

DESCRIPTION:The Comanche fly-in will be at YSHR\, centred around the weekend of the 7/8th September\, which is the weekend after the final Shute Harbour Runway Dinner (there will not be any more)… it might be worth going up for the dinner and making a week of it- if you have not been to a Runway Dinner before you have missed out!  Details are behind  the link below \nICS Airlie Beach Fly-in 6-8th Sept \nThe Shute Harbour Pilots Guide is a must-read if you are flying in. Airport management  also ask that pilots wear a high vis vest. \n  \nNote re the hotel booking procedure at Mantra Club Croc at Airlie Beach: when members call to book they will need to speak with Mia or Nikky only.  Monday to Friday between 08;00 – 15;00 to pay for their accommodation with a credit card. \n  \nSTOP PRESS Can all  attendees please send a text message to confirm names and numbers so that the organisers\, Chris Hayhoe  and  Ken Holdsworth can arrange adequate transport and sufficient table bookings for dinner both nights.  Chris’s mobile number is 0417 535 832.  \nAircraft parking will be at the North West side of the airstrip. Ground staff will be on hand to assist with transport to the terminal and will also refuel you in the parking area if you require avgas. \nLee has requested that all pilots check the procedures on their website before arriving\, and has also advised that parachute operations will be happening on the day we arrive\, Ground staff will be on the CTAF advising when all chutes are on the ground and it is safe to land. \nFor those of you who are attending\, have a great weekend!! \n
